What is OADE? The Ontario Association for Developmental Education was founded in 1957 by a group of teachers and principals. The association is comprised of teachers, educational assistants, principals, consultants and other support staff, and parents. Statement of Purpose The Ontario Association for Developmental Education believes: - that the ultimate purpose of education is to help students achieve a self-satisfying quality of life, a sense of self esteem and personal competence, in their own community - that educational and community supports be provided to meet the individual and unique needs of every student - that each District School Board make a full spectrum of programs and services available to every student - that the efforts, expertise and commitment of professionals working with each student must be valued and enhanced OADE's goal The primary goal of OADE is to improve the education for students with developmental challenges in Ontario. OADE pursues this goal as follows: - maintains direct contact with the Ontario Ministry of Education concerning developmental education - maintains a website at www.oade.ca - publishes a regular newsletter - gives direction to the conference planning committee - hosts the annual conference - serves as a resource and support to developmental staff - advocates for students with developmental challenges - speaks on behalf of staff in developmental education - connects developmental education staff How are we organized? General Membership The general membership is comprised of individuals who work with and for students with developmental challenges in Ontario. Provincial Executive The provincial executive is elected by the membership at the annual conference. The executive conducts the business of the association and promotes the interests and concerns of members who work with developmentally challenged students. The president of OADE is Bruce Fitzgerald of Listowel. He can be reached at bruce_fitzgerald@fcmail.amdsb.ca. Provincial Office The Provincial Office is located in Milton. The Provincial Office maintains the files and records of the association, keeps track of membership, and publishes the newsletter. Herb Goodhoofd serves in this capacity. He can be reached at herbgood@gmail.com. Annual Conference The association organizes an annual conference for the purposes of professional development. This conference is usually held in April or in May. An annual general meeting is held at the conference. |
